A workshop for engineering mentors has been scheduled for August 23, 2010. The time and location haven’t been determined yet. The workshop will be held by Dr. David James, who was the mentor to the 2009 and 2010 winning Southern Nevada Future City teams. You can RSVP by signing up as a mentor and we will contact you with more information as the workshop approaches.
We also have a flyer to post to recruit other mentors.

Did you know you can help the Southern Nevada Future City Competition by donating your old electronics? Gazelle accepts old electronics and you can donate the proceeds to the Future City Competition. All electronics will be resold or recycled – really recycled – not sent to a landfill or overseas to be dumped in the desert. Gazelle recycles cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, video games, calculators and more!
Gazelle will send you a box, with free return shipping to send your product back to them. They have a video explaining their process. Sign up today and clear out that garage or desk drawer and help the Southern Nevada Future City Competition!

The national competition is now over. While our team, Vegas 2.0, didn’t make the top five, they did win two awards, “Best Management of Water Resources” from Bentley Systems as well as “Best Essay” overall! Congratulations to the students who worked so hard, and to all 1100 teams that participated this year in the Future City Competition across the country!
Update 3/18: Vegas 2.0 received 8th place overall! Excellent job!

Its National Engineers’ Week, and while the Future City National Finals go on in Washington D.C., I’ll be on the look-out for cool articles about National Engineers Week. We’ll start today with a post from ChevroletVoltage.com talking about engineering and specifically the Chevy Volt.
If you have any interesting articles or blog entries for National Engineers’ Week, be sure to post them in the comments!

In addition to the surveys the Las Vegas region sends out to teachers and mentors, the National Future City Competition also has surveys for teachers and students.
You can help out the national and regional Future City Competitions by taking the time to answer a survey (for teachers, for students) about this year’s competition. Teachers are eligible to win a $250 technology grant!
